Už ste to určite zachytili. V médiách a na množstve blogov sa šíria správy o škodlivosti kokosového oleja. Mnohí výživoví guruovia teraz menia svoje stratégie a vyhlásenia o kokosovom oleji v súlade s novým trendom o škodlivosti, alebo aspoň zaujímajú neutrálny postoj typu: možno nie je až taký skvelý, možno aj škodí, treba konzumáciu obmedziť alebo ho jesť iba príležitostne… Blbosť. Jediné, s čím súhlasím je, že treba vyberať kvalitu.

Americká asociácia srdca (AHA) práve uverejnila vyhlásenie o „Dietetických tukoch a kardiovaskulárnych ochoreniach“, v ktorom odsúdila kokosový olej a odporučila, aby ho ľudia nekonzumovali.

Kokosový olej a lipidová teória

Krajiny, v ktorých je kokosový olej používaný ako hlavný olej každý deň, netrpia chorobami „Západného sveta“ vrátane srdcovo-cievnych ochorení. Odporúčanie AHA je jednoznačne v rozpore s výskumami, ktoré už existujú nielen o kokosovom oleji, ale o nasýtených tukoch všeobecne, čo odhaľuje nesprávnu starú lipidovú teóriu srdcových chorôb, že nasýtený tuk a cholesterol spôsobujú ochorenie srdca.

Dobrý a zlý cholesterol

Dnes sa cholesterol rozdeľuje na „dobrý“ a „zlý“. Dokonca aj keby sme mali prijali toto rozdelenie, že LDL cholesterol je „zlý“, ako tvrdí AHA a že kokosový olej zvyšuje LDL a preto je škodlivý, je toto tvrednie bezvýznamné, pretože výskum kokosového oleja ukazuje, že viac zvyšuje HDL cholesterol (považuje sa za „dobrý“) ako LDL a tento pomer sa považuje za lepší ukazovateľ zdravia srdca. Štúdie ukazujú, že spotreba kokosového oleja skutočne zvyšuje tento pomer priaznivo a existuje množstvo výskumov, ktoré teraz ukazujú, že kokosový olej je pre zdravie srdca prospešný.

Časopis TIME v roku 2014 pripustil, že teória o škodlivosti nasýtených tukov je nesprávna a nie je založená na vedeckých poznatkoch.

Biznis so statínmi

Je všeobecne známe, že v minulosti boli lieky určené na zníženie hladiny cholesterolu (statíny) najpredávanejšie a najziskovejšie lieky v dejinách ľudstva. Jedná sa o 100 miliárd dolárov ročne. Liečivo, ktoré znižuje hladinu cholesterolu Lipitor, je najpredávanejšou drogu všetkých čias, s celkovou sumou viac ako 140 miliárd dolárov, bez vážnych blízkych konkurentov v histórii farmaceutických liekov. Až po tom, ako sa patent na Lipitor vyčerpal a otvoril dvere pre lacnejšie generiká, aby zaplavili trh, FDA nakoniec uverejnila varovania o vedľajších účinkoch statínových liekov, medzi ktoré patrí poškodenie pečene, strata pamäti, poškodenie svalov a Diabetes typu 2.

Každý štvrtý človek v západnom svete starší ako 50 rokov užíva statínovú drogu na zníženie cholesterolu, takže je to obrovský trh, ktorý závisí od úspechu lipidovej teórie srdcových ochorení.

Jedným z nových obrovských trhových potenciálov pre farmaceutický priemysel je vývoj liekov na liečbu neurologických ochorení, ako je Alzheimerova choroba a Parkinsonova choroba. Existujú presvedčivé dôkazy o tom, že farmaceutický priemysel so svojimi statinovými liekmi na zníženie cholesterolu spolupôsobí s alarmujúcim nárastom týchto neurologických ochorení, pretože naše mozgy potrebujú na správne fungovanie cholesterol, najmä neskôr v živote.
